Walking in natural park

During walking May, Quinta do Pomarinho is your home. The quinta partly lies in natural park Serra de São Mamede, a park with special flora and fauna and granite rocks. A large part of the walks lead through this natural park and in total you can choose from more than 25 planned out walks.

If you choose for walking May, you will end up in an explosion of flowers. All fields will be full of wild flowers in all colours of the rainbow. During walking May everything is still fresh and green and the sun is out often. You can already take a swim and the walking temperature is very pleasant.

During walking May you will walk over country roads and old paths, over hills, through forests, and past granite rocks. Special are also the white castle-villages that you will visit, such as Marvão. On the walking holiday program of walking May there is also a walk through an area with a lot of rivers. The walking program for walking May is planned well and consist of 3 walking days - 1 rest day - 3 walking days - 1 rest day - 2 walking days.

You will stay in one of the holiday homes Portugal of the quinta where you can choose from an apartment, a holiday cottage, or a room in our Friends of Nature House. You can camp at our camping or natural camping terrain with own camping equipment or you spend the night in one of our two rental caravans. Guests that would like a longer holiday should feel free to join us  earlier on or stay longer.

Walking May is including all meals: breakfast, lunch (packages), and dinner. On two evenings you will also visit Portuguese restaurants with typical local dishes such as javali (wild boar), cabrito (goat), bacalhau, and dorado (sea bream).

Prices and transportation

The price for walking May depends of the type of holiday accommodation that you choose and is always based on two persons in one accommodation. The prices below will give you an indication:

Walking May is excluding transport to and from Pomarinho. You can fly to Portugal as well as Spain. The closest airport in Portugal is Lissabon but flying to Porto or Faro is also a possibility. Sometimes it can be quite cheap to fly to Sevilla or Madrid in Spain.

The local transport is included in walking May.  With walks that are further away from the quinta you will be dropped off and picked up there.

Enthusiastic Group

For years an enthusiastic and varied group has always taken part in walking May. Participants find it very nice to walk with people who also enjoy walking, culture, and nature. In the course of time, many stories have been told at dinner or at the campfire!
