Walking in natural park

During walking June you will stay at Quinta do Pomarinho, a charming oasis full of rest in an otherwise rugged environment. De quinta is partly located in natural park Serra de São Mamede, a park that is well known for its special shrubs, plants, birds, and other small animals. Many hiking trails run through the park or through a nearby area with a lot rivers. There are more than 25 plotted walks in the environment that run over medieval smuggling trails, through forests, over hills, and past white castle-villages such as Castelo de Vide and Marvão.

During walking June you will see a real explosion of wild flowers in all colours of the rainbow. During walking June there is a lot of sun, but it's still great weather for walking. Moreover, the month June is a good time for a swim. Special at walking June is the "peeling" of the cork oaks, i.e. the stripping of their bark.

The walking holiday program of walking June is planned out as follows: 3 walking days - 1 rest day - 3 walking days - 1 rest day - 2 walking days. If necessary or if desired, the program can be adjusted to the level and needs of the group. The walks vary in length and cross both nature and culture, which leads to a nicely balanced program.

You will stay in one of the holiday homes Portugal of the quinta where you can choose from an holiday apartment, a holiday cottage, or a room in our Friends of Nature House. It is possible to camp at our camping or natural camping terrain with your own camping equipment. We also offer two rental caravans. If you want to stay for a longer period of time, we would like to invite you to come earlier or stay longer.

Walking June is including breakfast, lunch (packages), and dinner. For two of the nights you will go to Portuguese restaurants with delicious local dishes from the Alentejo such as cabrito (goat), javali (wild boar), bacalhau or dorado (sea bream).

Prices and transport

The price for walking June is closely related to the accommodation that you choose. The prices below are based on 2 persons in one accommodation and are meant as an indication:

The price for walking June is excluding the transportation to and from Quinta do Pomarinho. You can fly to Portugal as well as Spain. The closest airport in Portugal is Lissabon but flying to Porto or Faro is also a possibility. Sometimes it can be quite cheap to fly to Sevilla or Madrid in Spain.

Local transport is included in walking June. With walks that are further away from the quinta you will be set off and picked up there.
