Bird watching
Most beautiful bird-area of Europe
Quinta do Pomarinho has a terrain of 62 acres that is only occupied by a few holiday homes and a small-scale camping, and is thus a true paradise for bird watchers. In and around the terrain more than 60 different species birds are counted each year. In the direct vicinity of our quinta, the Natural Park Serra de São Mamede, you will be quite satisfied as bird watcher. If you’re lucky you might spot a hawk eagle, a Eurasian-Eagle owl, or a short-toed eagle hunting for a snake. It is also the hunting territory of the black kite and there are several different species of vultures including the griffon vulture, the monk vulture, and the Egyptian vulture. Living just across the Spanish border, 20 kilometers from our quinta, there is a colony of griffon vultures. A bit further, 120 kilometers from our quinta, is natural park Monfragüe. this natural park is located in the Extremadura of Spain, a well-known place for bird watchers. This remote region in Spain is perhaps the best and most beautiful bird watching area of Europe. Here you will find, among others, the great bustard.
