About Pomarinho

Quinta do Pomarinho is a small-scale holiday farm with camping site and several types of accommodation in Central Portugal in the Alto Alentejo, within walking distance (3 miles) of Castelo de Vide and near the Spanish border. Pomarino is part of Serra de São Mamede Natural Park, and our estate borders on its hills. The rural estate covers 60 acres. Because of its peace and space, it is an extraordinary holiday location for hikers, cyclists, nature-  and culture lovers, bird-watchers, artists and rest-seekers. The special atmosphere at Pomarinho gives inner calm and makes you feel in balance (again).

In the near surroundings are the medieval fortified cities Castelo de Vide and Marvão, picturesque lakes in which you can swim and fish, and many Roman remains. There is a small swimming pool on our estate and a small lake where one can find cooling. There are beautiful swimming pools nearby and you can swim in the River O Sever. In addition ro space and calmness, Pomarinho and surroundings also offer many possibilities for a very active holiday. It is also possible to help on the farm as a volunteer or as student on work placement. Since 2001, Pomarinho is runned by a Dutch couple. We, Phine Verhoef and Dolf Janssen, sold our house in the Netherlands in 1999 to make our dream come true in Portugal. The plan is to turn Pomarinho into the main walking centre of the Alto Alentejo in Portugal.

Quinta do Pomarinho is suited for both groups (such as families and travelling parties) and individual travellers. The nature is characterized by a diversity of flora and fauna. Every season has its own specific characteristics and these contrasts make Pomarinho very attractive for overwinterers, travellers in transit and long-term campers. We are open all year round and work with summer rates and attractive winter- and long-term camping rates.

We have a variety of accommodations on our estate. You can, for instance, camp out on our camping site, rent a room in Casa Antiga, the Friends of Nature house in Portugal, rent one of our two apartments in the former stables of Casa Antiga, called Apartment Portugal choose to stay at the unique holiday cottage for two persons called Casa Redonda. In addition, these accommodations together,  enable us to offer a exceptionally suitable group accommodation for reunions, family weekends and your own group cycling- or walking holidays. We can assist you with composing and organising your holiday.
